A warm welcome to viewers of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters Website.

We move into the 21st Century with a display of work by some of the finest oil-painters working in Britain and abroad today.

The Institute's aim is to uphold the age-old tradition of painting in oils, whilst giving encouragement to outstanding young oil painters of our time.

Our annual Autumn Exhibition, held in the Mall Galleries, London, is a show not to be missed by lovers of oil painting.

Membership of the ROI is open to artists who have shown work of a consistently high standard in its annual exhibition.

Successful candidates are first elected associate members of the Institute and have a maximum period of five years in which to illustrate their suitability for full membership.

Founded in 1882, The Royal Institute of Oil Painters (The ROI) is unique in that it shows exclusively in oils. The institute is proud of its royal status granted by King Edwards VII in 1909 and of the famous artists such as Alma Tadema, Sickert, Dame Laura Knight, Fantin Latour and even Rodin, who have exhibited with the Institute. Today our membership includes many of the leading oil painters in the country, amongst them a number of Royal Academicians.
