Art enthusiasts are being offered the chance to spend a day with two of Britain’s top oil painters and learn their secrets as part of a new initiative by the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.
The ROI Oil Masterclass will feature David Curtis, well known to many through his books and DVDs and a past President of the Institute Dennis Syrett. Neither painter normally teaches so this will be a rare opportunity to watch them in action in the flesh.
The event is being staged on Saturday March 20 2010 at the West Norfolk Arts Centre at Castle Rising in Norfolk next door to the Royal Sandringham Estate. People attending will have the chance to watch David and Dennis painting and ask them questions about their style and technique.
President of the ROI Peter Wileman who will also be at the event commented: 'We are very excited about this event. The ROI wants to promote excellence in oil painting in a country often dominated by watercolour painting. We wanted to stage an event outside London which would enable those who paint in oils to come along and watch some of the best in the business in action. I’m sure it will prove a very popular event and this one will hopefully be the first in a string of similar events.'
This is the latest initiative from the ROI which launched its new Friends section recently. Friends will get a discount on the event price.
